Section 01

Definitions

  • We, us, our. California Film Solutions, the warrantor under this document, of 2025 E Colorado Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91107.
  • You, owner. The person or entity that owns the covered vehicle at the relevant time.
  • Covered vehicle. The vehicle identified by vehicle identification number on the installation record.
  • Covered areas. Only the panels and surfaces listed on the installation record. Panels not listed are not covered, whether or not they adjoin a covered panel.
  • The film. The paint protection film product identified on the installation record.
  • Installation record. The document we issue on completion. It identifies the vehicle, the film product and its manufacturer, the covered areas, any excluded panels, and the intake condition report.
  • Warranty certificate. The document we issue confirming your coverage, its start date and its expiry date, and carrying a certificate number.
  • Delivery date. The date the covered vehicle is delivered to its first retail purchaser.
Section 02

Who is covered

This warranty runs to the owner of the covered vehicle.

Where we installed for a dealership

Where we installed the film for a dealership before the vehicle was sold at retail, this warranty runs first to that dealership while the vehicle remains in its inventory, and then to the retail purchaser from the delivery date. The dealership may make a claim under this warranty during the period it holds the vehicle.

Vehicles used commercially

Where the covered vehicle is used commercially, including as a rental, livery, delivery, rideshare or fleet vehicle, this warranty applies on the terms set out here, but the consumer warranty statutes referred to in Section 12 may not apply to that vehicle.

Section 03

When coverage begins and ends

Coverage runs for ten years from the delivery date. It does not begin on the date we installed the film, and it does not begin on the date a dealership took the vehicle into inventory.

Where we installed the film for a dealership, coverage for that dealership runs from the date of installation until the delivery date. The full ten years then run from the delivery date for the retail purchaser.

Coverage ends on the tenth anniversary of the delivery date.

How we record the delivery date. The selling dealership reports your delivery date to us, or you may send us a copy of your purchase contract. We then issue your warranty certificate. If you have not received one within 30 days of taking delivery, contact us and we will issue it.

Your coverage is not reduced by any delay in issuing the certificate, and a certificate is not a precondition to making a claim. If we cannot establish a delivery date from the dealership or from you, we will use the earliest date we can reasonably establish that you took delivery. We will not treat coverage as having begun before you took delivery of the vehicle.

Section 04

What is covered

The film

We warrant that, in the covered areas and for the coverage period, the film will not exhibit the following, other than as a result of a cause excluded in Section 06:

  • Yellowing or discoloration
  • Cracking
  • Blistering or bubbling
  • Delamination or peeling from the paint

These are the categories we warrant. Where the manufacturer’s own warranty covers additional categories, or covers a category for a different period, that coverage is additional to this warranty and is described in Section 09.

Our installation

We separately warrant our workmanship for the coverage period. This covers lifting or peeling edges, misaligned or short-trimmed panels, debris trapped beneath the film at the time of installation, and any other failure attributable to how the film was fitted rather than to the film itself.

Section 05

What we will do

If you make a valid claim during the coverage period, we will, at our option:

  • Repair the affected film, or
  • Remove and replace the film on the affected covered areas, or
  • Where repair or replacement is not reasonably practicable, refund the amount paid to us for installing the affected covered areas.

We will do this at no charge to you for parts or labor. We determine which covered areas are affected, acting reasonably and by reference to the installation record. Where the amount paid to us was paid by a dealership rather than by you, any refund is calculated on that amount and is paid to you as the current owner.

If the film applied to your vehicle is no longer manufactured, we may substitute a product of equivalent or better specification. Replacement film is warranted for the remainder of the original coverage period, not for a new ten years.

The defect must first appear during the coverage period. If it appears during the coverage period and you report it to us within a reasonable time of discovering it, we will honor your claim even if the coverage period ends before the claim is resolved.

Repair, replacement or refund as set out in this section is your sole and exclusive remedy under this warranty.

Section 06

What is not covered

Paint protection film is a sacrificial layer. It is designed to absorb damage that would otherwise reach your paint. Damage to the film caused by an outside force is not a defect and is not covered. This warranty does not cover:

  • Impact damage, including rock chips, road debris, collision, and vandalism
  • Scratches, abrasion and marring, including from washing, drying or contact
  • Fire, hail, flood, storm, and other events outside our control
  • Chemical damage, including fuel and solvent spills, paint overspray, and industrial fallout
  • Rail dust, surface rust and corrosion originating in the vehicle
  • Defects in the vehicle’s paint, including factory paint defects and previous refinish work
  • Film failure caused by paint that was defective, previously refinished, or otherwise unsuitable, where that condition was recorded on the intake condition report
  • Damage caused by failure to follow the aftercare instructions we supply
  • Damage caused by any person other than us removing, altering, repairing or reinstalling the film
  • Any panel not listed as a covered area on the installation record
  • Normal wear consistent with the age, mileage and use of the vehicle

Where a vehicle shows existing paint defects or evidence of previous refinishing, we record this on the intake condition report and, where necessary, exclude those panels in writing before installation. You receive that report before we begin work.

Section 07

Conditions you need to meet

  • Follow the aftercare instructions we supply. They are also published at our aftercare page.
  • Have the film inspected by us once in each twelve month period, measured from the anniversary of your coverage start date. This inspection is free at either studio.
  • Do not have the film removed, repaired or altered by anyone else without contacting us first.
  • Tell us about a defect within a reasonable time of discovering it.
  • Keep your contact details current with us so we can reach you about your coverage. We handle those details in accordance with our privacy policy.

No branded product is required. Our aftercare instructions require only ordinary care. Nothing in this warranty requires you to use any particular brand of product or any particular service provider, and using another brand or provider does not void your coverage.

If you are not near our studios. If the covered vehicle is kept more than 100 miles from either studio, contact us and we will agree an alternative to the annual inspection, such as dated photographs or an inspection by an installer we nominate.

A missed inspection does not automatically end your coverage. Where a defect was made materially worse because an inspection was missed, we may limit our obligation to the condition the film was in at the last inspection.

Section 08

Transferring coverage

Coverage transfers with the covered vehicle to each subsequent owner for the remainder of the original ten years. There is no transfer fee and no limit on the number of transfers. A transfer does not extend the coverage period.

To transfer, the new owner contacts us with the vehicle identification number and, if available, the warranty certificate number, within 30 days of taking ownership. We reissue the certificate in the new owner’s name. A late request does not end coverage, but we may require an inspection before reissuing.

This warranty attaches to the covered vehicle. It cannot be assigned or transferred separately from ownership of that vehicle.

Section 09

The film manufacturer’s warranty

The film we install also carries its own limited warranty from its manufacturer, who is identified on your installation record. That is a separate document with its own terms, coverage period, exclusions and transfer procedure. A copy is supplied with your installation record and is available from us on request.

The manufacturer’s warranty is in addition to this one. Where the two differ, you may rely on whichever gives you the greater protection. Nothing in this warranty reduces any right you have under the manufacturer’s warranty.

You do not need to deal with the manufacturer directly. Bring your claim to us and we will handle it, including any claim that has to be made upstream. If the manufacturer declines a claim that is covered by this warranty, our obligation under Section 05 is unaffected.

Section 10

How to make a claim

  • Contact us in writing, by email or by mail to either studio, at the addresses in Section 14.
  • Give us your name, email address, mailing address, the vehicle identification number, and your warranty certificate number if you have one.
  • Describe the defect and identify where it appears on the vehicle. Photographs help.
  • Bring the vehicle to either studio so we can inspect it. We may need to keep it for up to five business days to carry out covered work.

We will acknowledge your claim within three business days and tell you whether it is covered, and if so how and when we will put it right. If we decline a claim we will tell you why, in writing.

Section 11

Limitations

We are not liable for incidental or consequential damages arising from a defect in the film or in our installation, including loss of use of the vehicle, loss of value, cost of alternative transport, lost time, or lost income.

Our total liability under this warranty for any one covered vehicle will not exceed the amount paid to us for the installation on that vehicle.

Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the limitation above may not apply to you.

Section 12

Your rights under California and federal law

This warranty gives you specific legal rights. You may also have other rights that vary from state to state.

We do not disclaim or shorten any implied warranty. Nothing in this warranty limits, waives, shortens or disclaims the implied warranty of merchantability, the implied warranty of fitness for a particular purpose, or any other implied warranty arising under the California Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, the California Commercial Code, or the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. The duration of those implied warranties is set by law and is not affected by this document.

We do not require you to use any informal dispute settlement procedure before pursuing the remedies available to you by law.

Where any exclusion or limitation in this warranty is not permitted by law as applied to you, that exclusion or limitation does not apply to you and the remainder of this warranty continues in effect.

Section 13

General

  • Entire warranty. This document, together with your installation record and warranty certificate, is the entire written warranty we give. It replaces any earlier statement about warranty coverage.
  • No authority to vary. No dealership, employee or third party may vary this warranty or give any additional warranty on our behalf. Only a written variation signed by an officer of California Film Solutions is binding on us.
  • Severability. If any part of this warranty is held unenforceable, the rest continues in effect.
  • Governing law. This warranty is governed by the laws of the State of California.
  • Changes. We may change this warranty for future installations. The version that applies to you is the version in effect on the date of your installation, and it will not be changed to your disadvantage afterwards.
  • Installations before the effective date. Where we completed an installation before the effective date shown at the top of this document, the warranty terms in effect on that installation date apply, and we will honor them. Contact us for a copy.
  • Reading this before you buy. This warranty is published in full on our website and is available on request from us or from the dealership selling the vehicle, so that you can read it before you buy.
  • No registration card required. Your coverage does not depend on returning any registration card or completing any form. It attaches to the covered vehicle automatically.
